Regulus A. Black

History: Raised by the proud and Toujours Purs Black family, Regulus received the exact same primary education that his brother did, yet through his habit of accepting what he is told, he didn't seek out alternative literature and alternative paths from the family way. Home-schooled, tutored, and furnished with all the trappings of a rich, wizarding upbringing, Regulus grew prepared for his formative years at Hogwarts. His main childhood companions were his brother and older cousins, having been unfortunate -- or fortunate -- enough to have the typical cold and distanced parents of many pureblood families. The children were left to find their own amusement, and Regulus found his in following whatever the older ones were doing.

When not surrounded by outer influences and other children, Reg would often retreat into his own thoughts, and immerse himself in books -- but not non-fictional, informational books, nor books of history. Magical novels... fiction with moving pictures... high tales of adventure... encounters with Lethifolds, daring Quidditch teams, dragon hunters, fantasy is what kept the boy going. Part of him imagined that there was something else out there for him to experience -- if only he hopped on the right train, so to speak. His reasons in choosing his particular company throughout his Hogwarts years could be blamed on this ambition. And this ambition, which plainly landed him in Slytherin exactly as he ought to, could be traced back to a deep-rooted desire to do well by other's standards instead of his own.

As a result of this childhood, including his time spent with older cousins, has also numbed Regulus to age barriers -- he possesses a certain brashness in meeting other Hogwarts students, and isn't afraid of spending time with older housemates. In fact, he strongly desires their respect, and admires their knowledge and magic skill -- perhaps hoping to pick something up by keeping their company.
